Pasteurized cheese is made from pasteurized milk which means that the milk is heated briefly during the production of the cheese to render bacteria harmless. What is pasteurized cheese

Certain foods contain listeria bacteria, including soft mould cheeses. This bacteria survives the freezer and is even able to multiply in the refrigerator, but is unable to survive temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius. Therefore, the milk is heated very briefly to a temperature above 70 grande Celsius that the bacteria do not survive.

Why pasteurized cheese?

Although most (healthy) people will notice little to no listeria infection, high-risk groups such as pregnant women are susceptible to this bacteria. Eating unpasteurized cheese can lead to premature birth or even miscarriage. It is therefore important for pregnant women not to eat cheese made from raw milk. Do you still eat a piece of raw milk cheese? Don't panic. The chance of listeria contamination is very small.
