Storage advice for cheese
To ensure that you can enjoy your ordered cheese as long as possible, we recommend that you observe the following cheese storage guidelines. This will allow you to enjoy the freshness of our cheese for longer.
Storing cheese
Since every cheese is different, different types of cheese have their own storage recommendations. These dairy products can be roughly divided into three categories: Hard cheese, semi-hard cheese and soft cheese.
Hard cheese
Hard cheeses include Pecorino Romano and Parmesan cubes. These hard cheeses generally have the longest shelf life. Unopened hard cheeses can be kept in the fridge for about 3 months. Once opened, cheeses will keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks. It is important to wrap the cheese well in greaseproof cheese paper, which you can get at the cheese shop. If you don't have this handy, opt for a container or cheese box. Plastic allows mould to grow faster.
Semi-hard cheeses
When we talk about semi-hard cheeses, we often mean Dutch and Swiss cheeses. Think, for example, of a Gouda cheese and an Emmental. Unopened, semi-hard cheese will keep in the fridge for about 2 months. Once opened, the cheese can be kept in the fridge for about 2 weeks, provided it is wrapped in greaseproof cheese paper. Or as mentioned above, in a cheese box.
