Comté cheese
Comté is a well-known French mountain cheese, originating from Jura, from Franche Comté. This delicious French cheese has been protected with the AOP label since 1958. There are a number of conditions the cheese must meet.
For example, only raw milk from the Jura mountains may be used. The cows that may provide this milk must come from the Montbeliard, French Simmental or a cross between these two breeds.
In addition, the cows eat only grass, herbs and flowers. This results in a Pikant cheese with delicious nutty notes.
Serving Comté
Comté is a delicious piece of cheese to eat at lunch. In addition, the unique flavor of this French cheese also lends itself perfectly to being incorporated into various hot dishes. Think for example of a savory pie, fondue or a soufflé. The possibilities are endless.
Of course, it is also possible to serve this special cheese on a cheeseboard. A white dry wine is delicious in combination with a piece of Comté cheese. Think for example of Chardonnay or a Sauvignon Blanc.
